(Excerpt below.)
We are in the midst of one of the most challenging times that any of us have ever faced. Unprecedented uncertainty, constant change, access to friends and loved ones being denied, and yet we still don’t know how long this will last.
It is a time to try to cope and give permissions where none were ever tolerated because as humans, we are not geared to be separated without touch, hugs from friends, and especially not 6’ apart.
For me, I am only allowing myself to look at a half day at a time. It seems I cannot wrap my head around more than that, as the concept is blurred and unfathomable.
When I was going through my cancer experience 15 years ago, the quote that got me through everyday was one by Charles Swindoll, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. The remarkable thing is, we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.”
I am hopeful that the teddy bears in the windows, the virtual birthday party car parades, and new knowledge of making a mask will represent the fact that we cannot be shut down forever.
As always, this too shall pass and our fighting human spirits will prevail.
In gratitude,
