Culinary Angels Volunteers
The Meaning of Volunteering at Culinary Angels
Working alongside others who generously give their time and energy to a greater cause within the community is an amazing experience. With generous hearts, people come together and share common goals throughout the Culinary Angels process of preparing and delivering healthy meals to those experiencing cancer.
There is joy in knowing that vegetables being scrubbed on a Monday will be transformed into a hearty Italian Vegetable Soup on Wednesday. Or that the 38 pounds of ground organic turkey will later be a delicious Turkey & Summer Squash Casserole for our recipients and their caregivers.
Our volunteers are the heart of our organization. The spirit of friendship and community is ever present in the various functions throughout our meal process. We recognize and celebrate each volunteer and welcome you to learn more about how you might join one of our amazing teams.

Kitchen Protocols
Food safety and kitchen security are a top priority throughout all the steps in our operations. We communicate protocols in daily meetings with kitchen personnel and through email updates. Signage in the kitchen provides food safety and proper sanitation reminders. Team Leads are available to answer questions and monitor the food and personal safety guidelines we proudly maintain at the heart of our operation.
Policies and procedures comply with the Department of Environmental Health and Cal-OSHA protocols. Volunteers are required to pass a background check, obtain a California Food Handler card, and agree to the food safety, sanitation protocols, and personal hygiene guidelines stated below:
- Proper storage of all ingredients.
- Use antimicrobial vegetable washing stations, handwashing, and sanitizing protocols at all workstations.
- Time and food temperature controls.
- Logging of required data throughout the meal preparation process.
- Wear gloves while handling food.
- Use hair nets, face masks, and aprons; wear long pants, and close-toed shoes while in the kitchen.
